Our Theme

The core of Haptic Happenings is an exploration of identity and representing identity through art that invokes tactile memories. Our curatorial team is interested in works that shed light on lived experiences, experiment with form and medium, and allude to the process of creation and personal definition.

We have collected works from Amoako Boafo and Billie Zangewa, two of many artists who have substantial bodies of work dedicated to this topic, to serve as guiding examples. Both artists center the human figure within their work, specifically exploring those related to their personal and cultural identities. Their combined emphasis on identity brings together themes of the body and the self in the same context that we hope to achieve with the Haptic Happenings exhibition.
